Today marks 25 years since the American release of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Nintendo officially released the NES system on October 18th, 1985 in limited American markets, and after its quick success released a full launch in February 1986. Ten titles were originally released with the test launch, including 10-Yard Fight, Baseball, Clu Clu Land, Donkey Kong Math, Duck Hunt, Excitebike, Golf, Gyromite, Hogan's Alley, Ice Climber, Kung Fu, Mach Rider, Pinball, Stack-Up, Tennis, Wild Gunman, and Wrecking Crew.
In February, the system was released in two forms: the Control Deck package and the Deluxe Set. Each console was the same, with different games and combinations of accessories. The Control Deck packaged for $129.99, and the Deluxe Set launched at $249.99, but included the infamous R.O.B. accessory.
To date, the Nintendo Entertainment System has sold 61.9 Million copies.
