Intel Goes Blu...In 3D!

Intel has announced that the company's newest wave of chips will feature playback of Blu-Ray discs in 3D.

Intel is currently working hard to produce the 3D enabling chips, which the company claims could be available sometime during the middle part of next year.  The company's goal has been to make sure that the chips will be able to play in the 3D format without drastically reducing battery life, something their competitor (Nvidia) has not been able to do with their line of chips.

The chipset is unique to Intel, featuring a Sandy Bridge setup which puts the CPU and GPU on one chipset.  By doing so, the company will be selling integrated chips for the first time.

Nintendo first wowed audiences when it showed off their upcoming Nintendo 3DS gaming handheld, capable of presenting 3D gaming without required glasses.  Since then, companies have been striving to achieve the latest in three-dimensional home viewing, including television models which require expensive, digital 3D glasses and those that don't.

Intel is certainly stepping in the right direction, making even more home 3D viewing accessible.
