By the end of this year, that is.
By the end of 2010, there will have been 226 Million new internet users, of which 162 Million come from smaller countries which are just recently receiving internet access. The report comes from the International Telecommunications Union, which claims that internet accessibility has doubled in the last five years.
The report claims that roughly 65% of people living in developed countries have internet access. They cite Europeans as an example, having 65% online, while only 9.6% of Africans (non-developed) have access.
These figures boost the amount of users currently able to access the internet, and with these numbers the totals should cross the 2 Billion range by the end of 2010. The ITU claims that broadband is the next traditional step to increasing traffic and users, while citing only 8% of the world have access to broadband capabilities.
The United Nations have declared October 20th, 2010 (read as 20-10-2010) 'World Statistics Day', which is set to 'acknowledge the importance of national and international statistics and aims to strengthen the awareness and trust of the public in official statistics.'
