Weather Balloon Carrying Camera and iPhone

HD Camera Records Trip

Some stories are just too cool.

A father and son, Luke and Max Geissbuhler, decided to launch an HD Camera into space so that it could record a view of Earth as it fell back home.  The pair attached an iPhone to the device, so that they could use the phone's GPS to track where it landed upon returning to Earth.  The two prepared for eight months, researching as much as they could, to send their little project into space.

And it worked.  Perfectly.

The HD Camera and iPhone were attached to a weather balloon, which upon launch took 70mins to travel into space.  The homemade contraption fought strong winds and 60 below temperatures, recording nearly the entire time, before landing in a tree only 30miles from liftoff.

The pair made a home video, with details of the flight and of preparation, and placed it online.  Click play below to watch one of the coolest things you'll ever see.
