Fans of that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth trailer will be watching Jeri Ryan continue as Sonya Blade.
Ryan confirmed the news via her Twitter feed over the weekend that she will be returning to star as Sonya Blade in the upcoming Mortal Kombat webseries. The webseries has been on the fast track over the last couple of weeks and the news of Ryan returning is cause to celebrate. Ryan fit the role perfect, though arguably she was only onscreen for about four minutes.
The decision to go with Ryan suggests that the webseries will stay true to its origin roots and grounded in the world we were introduced to in the short. That's great, because it's exactly what that reboot needs.
Ryan, who was last seen on the television show Leverage, has been a fan favorite since starring as Seven of Nine (a Borg) on Star Trek: Voyager. From Star Trek Ryan lept into the role of a teacher on Boston Public and has since popped up on television and in movies in various supporting roles.
Here's Ryan's confirmation from her Twitter account:
"Heading to the farmer's market with the hubs & my girl. Then this evening I head to Vancouver to shoot Mortal Kombat! (NOW it's official)"
