Microsoft has redesigned their classic gaming controller.
After receiving years of complaints regarding the D-Pad, Microsoft decided that a change was indeed needed. The new controller has several 'new' features including newly colored gaming buttons, a matte silver finish, and a concave design to the controller itself. The D-Pad has been replaced completely, and in its spot a new D-Pad, one that can swivel, or twist, to change its layout. The D-Pad has two layouts now, one as a 'plus sign' and the other more akin to the original.
The change will make controlling certain games which require excessive use of the D-Pad more comfortable for gamers, while also allowing more control. The 2009 Street Fighter IV game is a prime example, with most of its gameplay hanging on the successful mastering of directional control. With the change, successfully completing moves will become much simpler on the system.
The video below shows an exclusive look at the new controller, complete with demonstration of the twist maneuver for changing the layout of the D-Pad. The controller will become available November 9th in the Xbox Play and Charge kit, which retails for $64.99
