Nintendo has quite the rumor on their hands this week.
Game Informer ran with a wild rumor this week that Nintendo is prepping to show off its Wii 2 at this year's E3 in June. The speculation has the device going in front of audiences, completely packed with HD capabilities.
Everything is pure speculation at this point, with Nintendo denying any and all rumors. Supposedly the device set to premiere will be capable of 1080p output and backwards compatibility with all of the Nintendo Wii's catelog.
Now, obviously that'd be some pretty impressive hardware. Nintendo hasn't been known for being the first to lead the pack into new generations of consoles, but there's a first time for everything. The Nintendo Wii has been on sale since November 19th, 2006. A new console this year would mark the five year anniversary of the device.
The rumor is being fueled by the fact that Nintendo has slowed down their release titles for the Wii, an indication that the company might be moving their upcoming titles to a new system.
E3 is June 7th through June 9th. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
