Google aims to create original programming.
Google has made it official; the company has plans to begin turning out original content via their web video service Youtube. The move comes on the heels of Netflix's announcement for original content programing as well.
Reports hit today that Google is looking to provide hours of weekly content, ranging from 5-10 hours per week, and will be coughing up big bucks to do so. Just how much money is the company willing to spend for the original content? Early reports claim that they're willing to drop up to $100 million for the creation of original content.
The report came from the Wall Street Journal, which claims that Google will be looking tp create up to twenty new channels. The change from free-ranging channels to premium content with originally created videos is a bit of a stretch for the online video giant, and a change in structure could bring about significant changes overall to Youtube.
The WSJ claims that the new version of Youtube could be rolled out by the end of the year.
